Royal Commission to Propose Jewish State, London Hears Again

Creation of semi-independent Arab and Jewish states in Palestine with a “buffer” British-mandated territory between them will be recommended in the report of the Royal Commission, the Daily Herald said today.

The new Jewish State will extend from Syria on the north to Gaza on the south, the newspaper said, while the Arab nation will include all interior Palestine in a triangle extending from Gaza to Beisan to the Dead Sea.

The region around Jerusalem and Bethlehem will be included in an international zone under British mandate, the report said. Haifa and a corridor running from Haifa to the Transjordan frontier also will be included in the British zone.

The Jewish State will have a status similar to that of a British dominion with full membership in the League of Nations, according to the Herald.
