The anti-Semitic National Democratic Party today launched a drive to prohibit Jews from living in Brzesc (Brest-Litovsk) for military reasons. The city was the scene of serious anti-Jewish riots May 13 after a Jew had killed a Polish policeman.
A resolution adopted at a meeting of the party in Warsaw declared that removal of Jews from places of strategic importance would be “a fitting reply to the interference in Polish internal affairs by the British Parliament.”
Anti-Jewish disorders in Poland were denounced in a recent discussion in the British Parliament.
“English intervention in behalf of the Jews of Brzesc must provoke a sharp protest by the Polish people, not only in words but in deeds,” the resolution said.
After the meeting, young Endeks (National Democrats) organized an anti-Jewish demonstration in which a Jew was beaten. The demonstrators were dispersed by the police.
The newspaper Wieczor Warszawski reported that the military commander of the Brzesc fortress had turned out all Jewish butchers in the fort area and brought in a Polish butcher from Bydgoszcz in the Poznan district.
The policeman had been slain by a Jewish butcher’s son during a raid on the butcher shop for illegally slaughtered kosher meat.
