WARSAW (Jun. 25)
Lord Melchett, British industrialist and Jewish leader, has asked to be permitted to run as candidate for delegate to the World Zionist Congress from Poland, it was announced today, to express his sympathy with the sufferings of the Polish Jews.
A cable from Lord Melchett with the request was made public by the Central Committee of the Polish Zionist Organization, in whose list he expressed a wish to be entered.
Zionist groups in Western Galicia and Polish Silesia decided to hold no contest for election of delegates in view of the crisis facing the Zionist movement. No agreement was reached with Zionist organizations in other parts of Poland, however, and an election will be held July 11.
The twentieth biennial world Zionist Congress will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, beginning Aug. 3.
