THE ROYAL COMMISSION “TRIED HARD TO DISCOVER A REMEDY” FOR TROUBLES IN THE HOLY LAND WITHOUT ABANDONING THE MANDATE, BUT WAS FORCED TO DECIDE ON PARTITION AS THE ONLY WAY OUT, EARL PEEL, CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMISSION, SAID TODAY IN A RADIO ADDRESS FROM LONDON HEARD ON STATION WABC.

“THERE IS NO ALLEGIANCE TO A COMMON PALESTINE CITIZENSHIP,” EARL PEEL SAID. “PEOPLE ARE ARABS OR JEWS, AND OWE LOYALTY ONLY TO THEIR OWN PEOPLE AND THEIR OWN TRADITIONS.”
