Bulletin Confidence Vote to Be Sought on Partition

SIGN UP FOR THE JTA DAILY BRIEFING

THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSAL TO PARTITION PALESTINE WILL BE MADE A QUESTION OF CONFIDENCE WHEN IT IS FORMALLY DEBATED BY PARLIAMENT WEDNESDAY, THEREBY THROTTLING MANY CONSERVATIVE OBJECTIONS, THE JEWISH TELEGRAPHIC AGENCY LEARNED TODAY.

DEBATE OVER THE PLAN TO DIVIDE THE HOLY LAND BETWEEN JEWS AND ARABS WILL TAKE PLACE ON A GOVERNMENT MOTION APPROVING THE CABINET’S ACTION. APPROVAL BY A LARGE MAJORITY IS THEREFORE A FOREGONE CONCLUSION, SINCE ON AN ISSUE OF CONFIDENCE MANY CONSERVATIVES WHO HAVE OBJECTIONS TO THE SCHEME WILL REMAIN SILENT AND CRITICISM WILL BE CONFINED LARGELY TO OPPOSITION MEMBERS.
