U.S. Doubles Imports from Poland in Year

IMPORTS FROM POLAND TO THE UNITED STATES HAVE MORE THAN DOUBLED IN THE SPACE OF A YEAR, MAKING THIS COUNTRY ONE OF POLAND’S BEST CUSTOMERS, THE AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNOUNCES.

FOR THE FIRST FIVE MONTHS OF 1937 UNITED STATES IMPORTS FROM POLAND TOTALLED 50,453,000 ZLOTYS (ABOUT $10,090,000) AS AGAINST 22,389,000 ZLOTYS (ABOUT $4,477,000) IN THE SAME PERIOD OF 1936. AT THE SAME TIME, UNITED STATES EXPORTS TO POLAND DROPPED OFF SOMEWHAT FOR THE SAME PERIOD, FROM 55,928,000 ZLOTYS TO 51,710,000 ZLOTYS, ACCORDING TO THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FIGURES. AS A RESULT, THE UNITED STATES FELL FROM FIRST TO THIRD PLACE AS A SOURCE OF SUPPLY FOR POLAND, THOUGH IT ROSE FROM SIXTH PLACE TO NEAR THE TOP AS A CUSTOMER.
