Plans to Aid Jews in Wartime Urged at Ose Congress

THE WORKING OUT OF PLANS FOR MEDICAL AND SANITARY WORK IN THE EVENT OF A EUROPEAN WAR WAS ASKED TODAY BY DELEGATES AT THE TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY CONGRESS OF THE OSE, SOCIETY FOR PRESERVATION OF HEALTH OF JEWS IN EASTERN EUROPE.

A NEW WAR MAY INVOLVE MILLIONS OF JEWS, AS DID THE WORLD WAR, SPEAKERS TOLD THE 100 DELEGATES ASSEMBLED FROM MANY COUNTRIES, INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES, ARGENTINA AND AUSTRALIA.

THE CONGRESS WAS OPENED IN BEHALF OF THE FRENCH HONORARY COMMITTEE OF THE OSE BY SENATOR JUSTIN GODART, WHO PRESIDED. A MESSAGE WAS READ FROM LORD ROTHSCHILD, WRITTEN IN LONDON LAST WEDNESDAY, TWO DAYS BEFORE HIS DEATH. A FRENCH GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVE GREETED THE CONGRESS, AS WELL AS DR. BERNHARD KAHN, EUROPEAN DIRECTOR OF THE AMERICAN JEWISH JOINT DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE; JAMES BERNSTEIN, OF THE HIAS-ICA EMIGRATION ASSOCIATION, AND LEON BRAMSON, PRESIDENT OF THE WORLD ORT UNION.

THE DELEGATES WERE TO VISIT THE PARIS INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION TODAY AND ATTEND A BANQUET IN THEIR HONOR. THE CONGRESS, WHICH WILL CONTINUE UNTIL SEPT. I, WILL HEAR REPORTS ON ITS ACTIVITIES IN THE PAST QUARTER CENTURY AND PAPERS ON JEWISH HEALTH PROBLEMS. THE OSE, TOGETHER WITH ITS AFFILIATE IN POLAND, TOZ, OPERATE HOSPITALS AND CLINICS, PROVIDE MEALS FOR UNDERNOURISHED JEWISH CHILDREN AND PROVIDE INSTRUCTION IN HYGIENE.

AMERICAN JEWRY RECEIVED FRIDAY NIGHT THE THANKS OF THE ORT FOR ITS AID TO ORT’S WORK IN VOCATIONAL RE-TRAINING OF JEWS IN EASTERN AND CENTRAL EUROPE. DR. DAVID LVOVITCH, MEMBER OF THE ORT EXECUTIVE, EXPRESSED THE ORGANIZATION’S GRATITUDE AT A BANQUET FOR DELEGATES TO THE ORT CONGRESS. SIMULTANEOUSLY THE NEWLY ELECTED CENTRAL BOARD UNANIMOUSLY VOTED ITS THANKS TO THE J.D.C. FOR MORAL AND MATERIAL SUPPORT AND CO-OPERATION.
