Poland, Norway Urge Large Territory for Jewish State at Geneva

POLAND AND NORWAY URGED TODAY BEFORE THE SIXTH (POLITICAL) COMMISSION OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS THAT A LARGE TERRITORY BE GRANTED FOR THE JEWISH STATE WHICH GREAT BRITAIN PROPOSES TO ESTABLISH THROUGH A THREE-WAY PARTITION OF PALESTINE.

THE POLISH GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS THE MANDATES COMMISSION’S RECOMMENDATION THAT THE JEWISH STATE BE GIVEN AN AREA SUFFICIENT TO ABSORB A LARGE AND COMPACT JEWISH IMMIGRATION, SAID TITUS KOMARNICKI, OF POLAND, IN A STATEMENT OF HIS GOVERNMENT’S ATTITUDE ON THE PALESTINE PROBLEM.

POLAND WILL CONSIDER ANY DEFINITE PROPOSAL BY BRITISH FROM THE VIEWPOINT THAT PALESTINE IS THE ONLY OUTLET FOR THE JEWISH MASSES, WHOSE ECONOMIC HOPES ARE BASED ON EMIGRATION, AND HENCE MUST BECOME THE BASIS OF THEIR NATIONAL ECONOMIC EXISTENCE, MR. KOMARNICKI DECLARED.

THE POLISH REPRESENTATIVE POINTED OUT THAT THE ABNORMAL ECONOMIC STRUCTURE OF THE POLISH JEWS WAS ACCENTUATED BY THE POST-WAR STOPPAGE OF EMIGRATION TO MOST COUNTRIES.

DR. CHRISTIAN L. LANGE OF NORWAY ALSO DEMANDED THAT THE PROPOSED JEWISH STATE’S FRONTIERS BE ENLARGED, TO INCLUDE THE NEGEB REGION AND THE JEWISH SUBURBS OF JERUSALEM.

THE LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER EXPRESSED THE HOPE THAT THE SOLUTION OF THE PALESTINE PROBLEM WOULD BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE JEWISH DESIRE TO ESTABLISH THEIR OWN STATE. MR. MANE OF URUGUAY SAID HIS COUNTRY SUPPORTED ANY RESOLUTION GIVING THE JEWS AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY.

MR. SEJA OF LATVIA EXPRESSED THE HOPE THAT IMMIGRATION RESTRICTIONS IN PALESTINE WERE ONLY TEMPORARY. FOREIGN MINISTER BOUTFOS GHALI PASHA OF EGYPT URGED A SOLUTION OF THE PALESTINE PROBLEM THAT WOULD RECEIVE THE CONSENT OF BOTH SIDES.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF HAITI SUGGESTED THAT MEMBER STATES OF THE LEAGUE ADOPT AN INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION ENSURING THE FULLEST EQUALITY FOR JEWS FROM COUNTRIES IN WHICH THEY ARE PERSECUTED.
