60 Arrested in Clashes As Fascists Parade in London; 18 Injured

SIXTY PERSONS WERE ARRESTED TODAY IN CLASHES BETWEEN ANTI-FASCISTS AND SIR OSWALD MOSLEY’S BRITISH UNION OF FASCISTS, THE HAVAS NEWS AGENCY REPORTED. EIGHTEEN PERSONS WERE INJURED.

DURING A FASCIST PARADE LASTING SEVERAL HOURS AND AFTER A FASCIST MEETING, ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR BERMONDSEY IN SOUTHEAST LONDON BUT TRANSFERRED TO SOUTHWARK, THE FASCISTS AND ANTI-FASCISTS FOUGHT IN STREET DISORDERS SUCH AS TRANQUIL OLD LONDON HAS SELDOM SEEN.

SEVERAL HUNDRED PERSONS WERE CLUBBED BY THE POLICE IN A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO HALT THE FIGHTING BETWEEN THE TWO FACTIONS. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS A BARRAGE OF FIRECRACKERS HURLED AT THE MOUNTED OFFICERS PROVOKED A NEAR PANIC AMONG THE STRUGGLING CROWDS.
