Tatarescu’s Dictum on Minorities Not Aimed at Jews, Vice-premier Holds

PREMIER TATARESCU’S STATEMENT OF POLICY ON MINORITIES, IN WHICH HE DECLARED THE MAJORITY “RUMANIAN ELEMENT” WOULD BE FAVORED BY EVERY FUTURE RUMANIAN GOVERNMENT, WAS NOT DIRECTED AGAINST THE JEWS, VICE PREMIER ION INCULETZ TODAY TOLD A MEETING OF JEWISH MEMBERS OF THE LIBERAL PARTY AT CALARASI, BESSARABIA.

DECLARING THE LIBERAL PARTY HAD NO COMPLAINT AGAINST JEWS, M. INCULETZ PRAISED JEWISH MEMBERS OF THE PARTY AS LOYAL CITIZENS BUT DENOUNCED THE JEWISH PARTY. HE ASSERTED MINORITY PARTIES WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL AND SERVED ONLY TO AROUSE HATRED.

“WITH REGARD TO PREMIER TATARESCU’S DECLARATION AT ORADEA ON SATURDAY,” THE VICE PREMIER SAID, “HIS STATEMENTS WERE ADDRESSED TO OTHER MINORITIES AND NOT TO THE JEWS, AGAINST WHOM THE LIBERAL PARTY HAS NO REASON TO COMPLAIN. BUT IF THE DECLARATION IS UNDERSTOOD BY THE JEWISH POPULATION AS IT SHOULD BE, WE HOPE IT WILL ALSO BE UNDERSTOOD BY OTHER MINORITIES LIVING IN THIS COUNTRY.”
