FORMATION OF A UNITED FASCIST FRONT COUPLED WITH APPROVAL BY A SENATE SUBCOMMITTEE OF PROPOSED CURBS ON JEWISH IMMIGRATION IS CAUSING CONCERN IN LIBERAL AND JEWISH CIRCLES THROUGHOUT MEXICO.

ACCORDING TO THE MEXICAN LABOR NEWS SERVICE, A GROUP OF DELEGATES FROM WHAT IT TERMS “NUMEROUS MOLECULAR POLITICAL PARTIES AND NATIONALIST ORGANIZATIONS, MANY OF WHICH EXIST IN NAME ONLY,” RECENTLY FORMED THE “ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF THE MEXICAN NATIONALIST FRONT.” THE ACTION WAS TAKEN, THE NEWS SERVICE EXPLAINS, “APPARENTLY AS A FOIL TO THE MEXICAN POPULAR FRONT, WHICH HAS FOR MONTHS BEEN IN PROCESS OF GESTATION.”

IN AN INITIAL STATEMENT, THE COMMITTEE DESCRIBED ITS PURPOSES AS TO JOIN WITH DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN GROUPS IN THE STRUGGLE AGAINST JUDAISM AND COMMUNISM, TO FOMENT NATIONWIDE SENTIMENT AGAINST COMMUNISM, AND TO UPHOLD THE MEXICAN CONSTITUTION WITH RESPECT TO LABOR, AGRARIAN AND EDUCATIONAL MATTERS IN THE ORIGINAL TERMS LAID DOWN BY THE FRAMERS OF THAT DOCUMENT IN 1917.

THE NEWS SERVICE SAYS OF THE COMMITTEE THAT IT IS, LIKE THE MEXICAN SOCIAL DEMOCRAT PARTY OF RECENT FORMATION, “THUS OPENLY FASCIST IN CHARACTER AND MADE UP OF DISGRUNTLED POLITICAL ‘OUTS’, SMALL BUSINESS MEN, FANATIC CATHOLICS AND THE LOCAL ADMIRERS OF HITLER, MUSSOLINI AND FRANCO.”

THE NEWS SERVICE CONTINUES:

“IN ITSELF IT IS PROBABLY OF NO GREAT IMPORTANCE, BUT IT IS SYMPTOMATIC OF THE INCREASING DRIVE TOWARDS ORGANIZATION AND CENTRALIZATION OF ALL THE OPPOSITION AND CONSERVATIVE GROUPS IN MEXICO WHICH ARE NOW PURSUING A COMMON TACTIC: THAT OF COVER ATTACKS AND PROPAGANDA AGAINST THE CARDENAS ADMINISTRATION AND THE LABOR MOVEMENT UNDER COVER OF A ‘PATRIOTIC’ CAMPAIGN AGAINST COMMUNISM.”

JEWISH LEADERS EXPRESSED FEARS THAT IF THE PROPOSED CURB ON IMMIGRATION IS ADOPTED BY THE SENATE, IT WILL BE FOLLOWED BY RESTRICTIVE MEASURES AGAINST JEWS NOW LIVING IN MEXICO AND MAY ENCOURAGE LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES TO IMITATION.
