Toscanini to Arrive in Palestine Soon to Conduct Orchestra

ARTURO TOSCANINI IS EXPECTED TO ARRIVE HERE SOON TO CONDUCT THE OPENING CONCERT OF THE PALESTINE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, COMPOSED LARGELY OF MUSICIANS IN EXILE FROM GERMANY.

THE WORLD-FAMED ITALIAN CONDUCTOR WILL ALSO LEAD THE ORCHESTRA IN A SERIES INCLUDING APPEARANCES IN TEL AVIV NOV. 13, JERUSALEM NOV. 15 AND HAIFA NOV. 17. THE PROGRAM INCLUDES ROSSINI’S OVERTURE TO “ITALIAN IN ALGIERS”, HAYDN’S “SYMPHONY IN D” (CLOCK SYMPHONY) AND SCHLBERT’S “SYMPHONY IN C MAJOR.”

A NUMBER OF OTHER FOREIGN CONDUCTORS WILL LEND THEIR COOPERATION, ACCORDING TO AN ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE ORCHESTRA MANAGEMENT, INCLUDING SIR MALCOLM SARGENT, OF LONDON, ISSAY DOBROWEN AND HANS W. STEINBERG, AND NEGOTIATIONS ARE IN PROGRESS WITH OTHERS. IT IS ALSO PLANNED TO FORM A CHAMBER MUSIC ORCHESTRA UNDER THE BATON OF MICHAEL TAUBE.
