ANTI-SEMITIC CIRCLES WERE INDIGNANT TODAY AT REFUSAL OF SENATOR PROF. MIECZYSLAW MICHALOWICZ, DIRECTOR OF THE CHILDREN’S DISEASES CLINIC AT PILSUDSKI UNIVERSITY, TO INTRODUCE “GHETTO BENCHES” IN HIS CLASSROOM. PROF. MICHALOWICZ LECTURE ROOM IN THE CLINIC IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE UNIVERSITY WHERE SEGREGATION OF JEWISH STUDENTS, SANCTIONED BY THE GOVERNMENT, HAS NOT BEEN INSTITUTED.

EXPLAINING HIS STAND BEFORE A LECTURE TODAY, PROF. MICHALOWICZ DECLARED:

“THE RECTOR, AS HEAD OF THE UNIVERSITY ELECTED BY ALL THE PROFESSORS, MAY HAVE HIS OWN VIEWS, BUT I, AS A SENATOR OF THE POLISH REPUBLIC, HAVE TAKEN AN OATH TO ABIDE BY THE CONSTITUTION AND I REFUSE TO VIOLATE IT.”

NATIONALIST NEWSPAPERS EXPRESSED INDIGNATION AT HIS ATTITUDE, CHARGING PROF. MICHALOWICZ WITH CHALLENGING NOT ONLY THE RECTOR BUT THE GOVERNMENT AS WELL. THE SENATOR IS AN OLD-TIME DEMOCRAT AND WAS A FRIEND OF THE LATE MARSHAL PILSUDSKI.
