None to Replace Him, Weizmann Holds at London Agency Services

DR. CHAIM WEIZMANN, PRESIDING TODAY AT A JEWISH AGENCY MEMORIAL MEETING FOR FELIX M. WARBURG, LAUDED HIS SERVICES TO WORLD JEWRY AND SAID, “FRANKLY, I CANNOT SEE ANYONE WHO CAN ADEQUATELY REPLACE HIM.”

DR. WEIZMANN MOURNED THE LOSS OF A GREAT FRIEND, A GREAT CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, AND LAUDED HIS WORK FOR THE REHABILITATION OF JEWS OF EASTERN EUROPE. REFERRING TO THE JEWISH AGENCY COUNCIL SESSION IN ZURICH, HE SAID:

“IT WAS A NOBLE SACRIFICE ON HIS PART, COMING FROM NEW YORK TO ZURICH AT A TIME WHEN HIS HEALTH WAS GREATLY IMPAIRED. THE LAST FEW DAYS WE SPENT TOGETHER. WE RETURNED HOME HAPPY IN THE FEELING OUR WORK WOULD GO ON AND PROSPER DESPITE ALL DIFFICULTIES AHEAD.

“WARBURG WAS A MAN WHO WAS ALWAYS POURING OIL ON TROUBLED WATERS, ALWAYS TRYING TO FIND A PEACEFUL WAY OUT. HE CAN ILL BE SPARED BY AMERICA AND THE ZIONIST MOVEMENT. FRANKLY, I CANNOT SEE ANYONE WHO CAN ADEQUATELY REPLACE HIM. JEWRY THE WORLD OVER MOURNS WARBURG.

“WE SEND FROM HERE AN EXPRESSION OF DEEP SYMPATHY AND CONDOLENCE TO HIS WIFE. HIS NAME WILL LIVE FOREVER AMONG US.”

AMONG THE OTHER SPEAKERS WERE PROFESSOR SELIG BRODETSKY, MEMBER OF THE JEWISH AGENCY EXECUTIVE; NEVILLE LASKI, PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF DEPUTIES OF BRITISH JEWS, AND LIONEL COHEN.
