Berlin Police Prefect, Violent Jew-baiter, Gets “leave of Absence”

COUNT WOLF VON HELLDORF, PREFECT OF THE BERLIN POLICE, HAS BEEN GRANTED “LEAVE OF ABSENCE” AND IS NOT EXPECTED TO RETURN TO HIS POST, THE HAVAS NEWS AGENCY REPORTED. A NEW PREFECT WILL SHORTLY BE NAMED, IT WAS BELIEVED.

THE DEPARTURE OF VON HELLDORF WAS BELIEVED DUE TO THE INTERVENTION OF HEINRICH HIMMLER, CHIEF OF ALL GERMAN POLICE ORGANIZATIONS. VON HELLDORF WAS ORIGINALLY APPOINTED AT THE RECOMMENDATION OF PAUL JOSEPH GOEBBELS, MINISTER OF PROPAGANDA, IN ORDER TO INTENSIFY THE STRUGGLE AGAINST THE JEWS. HIS PREDECESSOR WAS ADMIRAL MAGNUS VON LEVETZOW, WHO WAS FORCED TO RESIGN IN JULY, 1935, WHEN HE CRITICIZED THE ANTI-JEWISH RIOTS ON THE KURFUERSTENDAMM. HELLDORF CAME INTO OFFICE KNOWN AS A VIOLENT JEW-BAITER.
