THE APPEALS COURT REDUCED YESTERDAY FROM LIFE TO THIRTEEN YEARS THE PRISON SENTENCE OF JOSEF BENDRAK, JEWISH BUTCHER WHO WAS CONVICTED JULY 1 OF SLAYING STEFAN BARAN, POLISH RAILWAY PORTER, IN CZESTOCHOWA ON JUNE 19. THE APPEALS COURT EMPHASIZED THE CAUSE OF THE MURDER WAS NOT RACIAL HATRED. THE SLAYING SET OFF SERIOUS ANTI-JEWISH RIOTS IN CZESTOCHOWA.
