Jewish Farmers Plan National Organization; Victory over Depression Cited

A CONFERENCE OF 350 REPRESENTATIVES OF JEWISH FARMERS IN THE EAST DECIDED TODAY TO FORM A NATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF JEWISH FARMERS. A COMMITTEE WAS APPOINTED TO FORMULATE PLANS FOR THE ORGANIZATION AND THE JEWISH AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY WAS ASKED TO CALL A NATIONAL CONVENTION AS SOON AS THE PLANS ARE READY.

THE CONFERENCE, WHICH WAS HELD IN THE HIAS BUILDING, DISCUSSED PROBLEMS OF JEWISH FARMERS. SPEAKERS POINTED OUT THAT JEWISH FARMERS, NUMBERING SOME 100,000 IN THIS COUNTRY, ARE LEADERS IN THE FIELD AND ARE THE FIRST TO INTRODUCE NEW AND MORE SCIENTIFIC AGRICULTURAL METHODS. DR. GABRIEL DAVIDSON, MANAGER OF THE JEWISH AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY, FOUND THAT JEWISH FARMERS HAD CONQUERED THE DEPRESSION AND WERE FORGING AHEAD RAPIDLY.

SPEAKERS DURING THE MORNING SESSION STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING DOWN PRODUCTION COSTS, AND A NUMBER OF SCIENTIFIC METHODS OF FEEDING AND SEVERAL NEW INGREDIENTS WERE DISCUSSED. HOME-MADE IMPROVEMENTS NOT YET ON THE MARKET WERE CONSIDER. A RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED CALLING ON JEWISH FARMERS TO EMPLOY A BETTER TYPE OF WORKMEN, POINTING OUT THAT THE NECESSITY OF COMPETING WITH POORER TYPES OF WORKMEN OFTEN DROVE FARMERS’ SONS AWAY FROM THE FARMS.
