Dr. Margoshes Resigns As Editor of the Day in Election Controversy

THE DAY ANNOUNCED ON ITS FRONT PAGE TODAY THAT DR. SAMUEL MARGOSHES HAS RESIGNED AS EDITOR. THE RESIGNATION CLIMAXES A CONTROVERSY WHICH BEGAN WHEN HE ATTACKED MAYOR LAGUARDIA BEFORE ELECTION DAY FOR REFUSING TO REVOKE A PARADE PERMIT ISSUED TO THE GERMAN-AMERICAN BUND.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT SAID THAT DIRECTION OF THE EDITORIAL DEPARTMENT HAD BEEN ENTRUSTED TO A BOARD COMPRISING B.Z. GOLDBERG, S. DINGOL AND S. ROSENFELD. CONFIRMING THE RESIGNATION, DR. MARGOSHES SAID TODAY THE REASON WAS “A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION WITH THE EDITORIAL BOARD AND THE STAFF IN CONNECTION WITH THE ELECTION.” HE HAS BEEN EDITOR SINCE 1924.

DR. MARGOSHES ALSO SAID HE WAS INSTITUTING A LIBEL SUIT FOR $250,000 AGAINST THE JEWISH DAILY FORWARD FOR A STATEMENT IT PRINTED ON NOV. 4 IN CONNECTION WITH THE ELECTION CONTROVERSY.
