Reich Cabinet Extends “flight Tax” on Emigrants

THE TIMES REPORTS FROM BERLIN THAT THE GERMAN CABINET AT A MEETING FRIDAY ENACTED A MEASURE PROLONGING FOR ONE YEAR AND MAKING MORE STRINGENT THE “FLIGHT TAX” WHICH IN THE YEAR 1936-37 BROUGHT IN A REVENUE OF 70 MILLION MARKS, MOSTLY FROM EMIGRATING JEWS. THE TAX IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE A LIKE AMOUNT IN THE CURRENT YEAR. IN 1934, THE TAX BROUGHT IN FROM FIVE TO SIX MILLION MARKS. FOLLOWING ENACTMENT OF THE NUREMBERG LAWS IN 1935, THE REVENUE FROM THE TAX ROSE SHARPLY.
