Dr. Berthold Feivel, Pioneer Zionist, Dies at 62

DR. BERTHOLD FEIVEL, WRITER, EDITOR AND PIONEER ZIONIST LEADER, DIED TODAY AT THE AGE OF 62. HE WAS AMONG THE DELEGATES ATTENDING THE FIRST ZIONIST CONGRESS AT BASLE IN 1897 AND WAS ASSOCIATED WITH DR. THEODOR HERZL IN EDITING THE CHIEF ZIONIST ORGAN, DIE WELT.

BORN IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA, HE WENT TO BERLIN AND IN 1902 HE HELPED FOUND THE JUEDISCHES VERLAG, WELL-KNOWN JEWISH PUBLISHING HOUSE. WHEN THE PALESTINE FOUNDATION FUND WAS ORGANIZED IN 1919, DR. FEIVEL BECAME ITS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IN LONDON AND HELD THE POST UNTIL 1926. HE WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE OF THE WORLD ZIONIST ORGANIZATION. TOGETHER WITH DR. MARTIN BUBER AND DR. CHAIM WEIZMANN, DR. FEIVEL OUTLINED THE PROJECT FOR A HEBREW UNIVERSITY.
