Reich Government Shake-up Expected to Lead to Intensified Anti-semitism

Intensification of the anti-Jewish campaign, especially in the economic sphere, is expected as a result of the Government shake-up. It is pointed out that the Economics Ministry has been completely Nazified, with Walter Funk, formerly Propaganda Minister Goebbels’ right-hand man, as Minister of Economics.

Of five departments into which the Economics Ministry has been divided, three most likely to affect Jews have been given into the charge of former Goering aides in carrying out his four-year plan. They are: Schmeer, former Labor Front leader of the four-year plan, who becomes leader of the department of economic organization and trade policy; Von Jawitz, formerly Goering’s trade executive, who assumes the post of head of the department of foreign trade, foreign exchange and exports, and General Loes, who occupied a similar position in the four-year plan, becoming head of the department of industry and raw materials.

Foreign circles believe Nazification of the Foreign Office is also likely to affect the Jews adversely, since the hitherto fairly independent Foreign Office acted as a “brake” against anti-Jewish excesses in fear of unpleasant repercussions abroad. The “brake,” it is feared, has now been removed.

Jews may no longer claim reductions in income tax for children, according to a new regulation issued by the authorities. As a result of the measure, the average Jewish family consisting of two children will be obliged to pay from ten to twenty marks per month more in income taxes.

Beginning this year the basis of the Reich census will be altered to record ethnic origin as well as nationality, according to provincial newspapers, which declare the change will automatically exclude Jews from a count of the German peoples. Other ethnical minorities, it is stated, will be permitted to declare themselves German if they desire.

Informed quarters predict that Jewish dental mechanics and Jewish-owned medical supply stores will soon be banned from the panels of the voluntary insurance groups. Jewish doctors and dentists have already been banned from these panels.

A Frankfurter penal court has sentenced two “Aryans” for “Rassenschande,” or racial defilement. One, accused of relations with a Jewess for three years, was sentenced to a two-year term in the House of Correction. The second, charged with living with a Jewess for several months, received a 15-month term.

According to Der Angriff, Nazi organ, signs signifying membership in “Adefa,” organization to facilitate “Aryanization” of certain industries, will soon appear in all stores selling only “Aryan” made goods. The paper declares the organization, which was originally limited to clothing manufacturers, is now recruiting members in the hat, shirt and umbrella industries. The word, “Adefa,” appears in large type in the center of the sign and is encircled by the slogan, “The Sign for Goods from Aryan Hands.”
