Nazi propaganda in Palestine and British colonies is not of such a nature as to require representations to the German Government, Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden declared in the House of Commons today.
Capt. Eden rejected the advice of Geoffrey Mander, Liberal, to make representations to Germany. Mr. Mander stressed Palestine particularly. In a supplementary question, he urged a study of the situation by the new council on foreign affairs headed by Sir Robert Vansittart.
Replying to the demand of Col. Josiah Wedgwood, Laborite, that Palestine Jewish bus drivers be permitted to arm in view of constant attacks, Colonial Secretary William Ormsby-Gore announced that civil and military authorities, “after careful consideration,” decided not to take this step, which had been urged by the Jewish Agency Executive on Jan. 6. He added that further measures had been introduced for protection of road traffic and expressed the hope that they would prove effective. He declined to reveal the nature of the measures.
