The Department of Justice is now investigating Adrien Arcand’s Fascist organization, drilling in military formation in Montreal, a deputy Minister of Justice told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today.

Results of the investigation, which was ordered by Minister of Justice Ernest Lapointe to ascertain if “any military exercises, movements or evolutions without lawful authority” are being carried out in Canada, will be reported to the House of Commons in due time, the official said.

Fascist activity is becoming an important feature of addresses of statesmen in Parliament and on public platforms. Prime Minister Mackenzie King, Opposition Leader R.B. Bennett, William Herridge, former Canadian Ambassador to the United Stated; J.S. Woodsworth, leader of the C.C.F. (Cooperative Commonwealth Federation) group in Commons, and R.J. Manion, former Conservative Cabinet minister, are among those who have expressed themselves on the growing menace of Fascism in Canada.

According to some of these leaders, the principal districts where Fascism has taken root are Quebec, particularly the Montreal area; central Ontario, Winnipeg, where a large industrial and European-born population is found, and other scattered parts of the Dominion.
