Maj. Gen. Archibald P. Wavell, Commander of all British armed forces in Palestine, rushed to Jenin in a Royal Air Force plane Saturday night to take personal command when the fighting assumed dangerous proportions. Air Commodore R.M. Hill, Commander-in-Chief of R.A.F. units in Palestine, and high Palestine police officials also arrived in Jenin today while troop reinforcements were rushed to the battle zone from Tel Aviv and Northern Palestine.
Several small terrorist bands were isolated and captured this morning when they attempted to filter through the British detachments patrolling the frontier region. One group was driven from a village by bombing planes. They took shelter on a high mountain and immediately threw up a line of trenches commanding all approaches. To avoid bloodshed, troop detachments merely surrounded the mountain and cut off all supplies for the Arabs. A close watch was maintained on residents of the village to prevent them from bringing food or ammunition to the Arabs on the mountain top.
