A precipitous drop in Jewish immigration to Palestine was recorded in 1937 for the second successive year, according to official figures. From a record total of 61,854 in 1935, and 29,727 in 1936, the figure for the past year plunged to 10,536. Government curbs, resulting from protracted Arab disorders, accounted for the sharp decline. Poland, by a slim margin over Germany, continued to lead as the principal country of origin of the Jewish immigrants. Of the total entering Palestine, Polish Jews numbered 3,636 in 1937 as against 11,588 in 1936. Jewish immigrants from Germany were second with 3,60, as against 8,180 the previous year. Rumania continued in third place with 314. A total of 172 came from the United States.
