Application of the racial theory to music has caused performances in Germany to sink to a state of “respectable mediocrity,” Ernest Newman, the music critic and author, declared in an article in the Sunday Times.
The Reich “is already paying a heavy penalty for the ban against all performances which cannot show 100 percent German pedigree,” Mr. Newman asserted. He said the concern of the musical world was “the possible and probable results of this narrow racial doctrine upon the future of composition.”
