The chief rabbinate proclaimed a countrywide work stoppage and shutdown of shops for two hours at midday today during the funerals in Safed of four Jews slain yesterday in an Arab ambush of a taxicab in northern Palestine.

The Government posted rewards of $1,000 each for five Arabs, including Abdul Kader Husseini, a relative of the exiled ex-Mufti of Jerusalem, reportedly in connection with yesterday’s massacre.
