A total of 2,700 Jews, including a large number from Germany and Austria, entered Palestine during the month of March, 1938, with the aid of the United Palestine Appeal, it was announced today by Dr. Stephen S. Wise, chairman of the U.P.A. Executive Committee. Of this number, 1,200 came into Palestine during the last week in March, indicating a sharp increase in emigration to Palestine from Austria as a result of the absorption of that country in the Nazi Reich. Dr. Wise pointed out that the number of Jews who came into Palestine in March represented a much larger immigration than to any other country in the world during the same period.

A group of New Yorkers have contributed $20,000 to Hadassah’s Youth Aliyah fund because of the Austrian emergency, it was announced today. Donations were mostly in $360 units, which covers maintenance of a child in Palestine. Donors included Eddie Cantor, $1,440; Mrs. Joseph Stroock, $1,080; Henry Kaufman, $1,080; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jonas, $1,000, and Mrs. Moritz Rosenthal, $1,000.
