Agriculture Minister Georges Ionescu-Sisesti today assured Chief Rabbi Jacob Niemirower that no hasty action would be taken regarding the decree requiring stunning of animals before slaughter, which would have the effect of prohibiting kosher slaughter.

Although the Agriculture Department has prepared the decree requiring pre-slaughter stunning of cattle and poultry, the ordinance has not yet been promulgated, M. Ionescu-Sisesti said, and careful consideration will be given before it is issued.

Meanwhile, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is bringing great pressure to bear for immediate promulgation of the decree, while several abattoirs are already applying the measure.
