Palestine today entered the third year of the Arab uprising, which in the past twelve months has taken a toll of at least 250 Arabs, 55 Jews and 16 Britons killed, about 200 Jews, 14 Britons and many hundreds of Arabs wounded. The two-year toll of Jews is 160 killed and about 600 wounded.
Taking note of the Arab uprising’s anniversary, Hebrew newspapers declared in editorials that force would not decide the Palestine question and voiced demands for “decisive political action” by the British Government.
The text of the Anglo-Italian treaty, which contains no direct reference to Palestine, was published here, and the comment it aroused indicated uncertainty of reaction. The Palestine Jewish community is not optimistic regarding the immediate effect of the treaty on Arab terrorism.
Haaretz, Hebrew daily, declared editorially that the arab insurrection would continue, but that the way was open for Britain to resolve the Palestine question. It said that the road was now clear for restoration of relations between Italy and Zionist groups.
