In this ancient fishing town, a large group of Jews are living for the first time in 2,000 years.
They are the crew of Jewish workmen who are erecting the power line to bring the modern world into Gaza. Under a contract recently signed with the Palestine Electric Corporation, Gaza is being electrified. The workers who are putting up the poles, stringing the lines and installing the lights are Jews.
To assure the safety of the workers, the Mayor published a proclamation pointing out the useful service they were performing for the town and urging the populace to receive them in a friendly manner. This notice was supplemented by a police guard and by allowing some of the workers to carry revolvers.
