Since the establishment of a special department of the Jewish Agency for Palestine to deal with the problem of settling German Jews in Palestine a total of $3,717,000 has been spent for this purpose during the period from October, 1933 to March, 1938, it was announced by Harold Jacob, national co-chairman of the United Palestine Appeal. Mr. Jacobi estimated that more than 45,000 Jews from Germany have come into Palestine since the beginning of the Hitler regime.
At least 1,500 Jewish children in Vienna have applied in the last few days to be transferred to Palestine, according to an estimate by the Berlin headquarters of the Youth Aliyah organization made public here by Hadassah. At the same time, Miss Henrietta Szold reported from Jerusalem that a group of German Jewish children would arrive July 4 and four more contingents from Germany and Poland would follow at short intervals.
