Italy Reported Exempting American Jews from Expulsion

The Herald Tribune reported today from Rome that Foreign Minister Galeazzo Ciano had assured American Ambassador Williams Phillips that the decree for expulsion of post-war Jewish immigrants would be interpreted liberally to exempt Americans. Count Ciano said the reply to the American note on the subject would be ready in a few days, the dispatch said.
