Establishment of a Palestine Arab state — which is now believed to be definitely out of the question, thanks largely to American pressure on Britain — would have called forth a passive rebellion of the Jews in the holy land, according to Dr. Nahum Goldman, the Jewish Agency’s Geneva representative, and the first Zionist official to come here since the recent crisis over the Jewish homeland.
Dr. Goldman made this assertion in an interview with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency as he arrived here on the ile de France for a stay of about three weeks, during which, as chairman of the world Jewish congress administrative committee, he will address the American Jewish Congress session this weekend, and, as Zionist diplomat, he will confer with Zionist leaders here.
“The Jews of Palestine would not have accepted an Arab government,” he said in reply to a question. “They would have refused to cooperate or pay taxes and would have formed their own government. They would have been in a state of rebellion.” however, he added, there is now believed to be no possibility of such a solution of the Palestine question. Britain, he said, is delaying a decision; she has no definite solution in mind, but is seeking one that would be acceptable to the Jews and to the moderate Arabs.
