Curley of Baltimore denounced Adolf Hitler as a mad man and labeled the Nazi Propaganda Minister as “the cripple-minded Goebbels.” The Archbishop, spiritual leader of 300,000 Catholics, added: “If Hitler does not like what I say about him and his cripple-minded Minister of Propaganda, let him take up the matter with Secretary of State Cordell Hull as he did when Cardinal Mundelein criticized him.”
