Tightening of Hungary’s law limiting Jews to 20 per cent participation in the nation’s economic and cultural life was foreshadowed by Premier Bela Imredy in an address before the Party of National Unity. Jewish circles expressed the fear that the ratio would be cut to five per cent. Revision of the law is necessitated, Dr. Imredy said, by addition of Upper Hungary and the consequent increase (estimated at between 100,000 and 150,000) in the nation’s Jewish population. The Premier cited also the intensified “danger” of infiltration of Jews from East Europe.
