An agreement calling for settlement of 5,000 Slovakian Jews in Palestine and transfer of $2,500,000 worth of goods was concluded today between the autonomous Slovakian Government and Dr. E. Soskin, director and founder of the Jewish Transport and Colonization Company. The agreement sets a three-year period for the settlement of the Jews, including both capitalists and workers.
According to an official communique, Premier Joseph Tiso is giving the Jewish question in Slovakia his personal study. Dr. Tiso was also stated to have personally examined the Palestine agreement.
Replying to demands voiced by a delegation from the Government Youth Organization for a speedy anti-Semitic solution of the Jewish problem, Premier Rudolf Beran declared today: “Either the Jews or goods must be exported — both together is impossible.” (Dr. Beran was believed to be referring to the possibility of a boycott of Czecho-Slovakian products in the event proposed radical anti-Jewish legislation is adopted.)
