A marriage ring and watch, provided they are not worth more than 100 marks, and one silver table service per person are the only valuables which an emigrating Jew will be permitted to take in the future, according to instructions issued to the Reich customs police. As a special concession, a family of three may take a second set of silverware as “reserve” and a family of five may take two extra sets. The ruling will considerably increase the business of municipal pawnshops, which have the exclusive right to purchase jewelry and valuables from Jews.
