Reiterating the Government’s opposition to block settlement of immigrants, Premier Joseph A. Lyons announced today rejection of a proposal to establish a Jewish colony in the hinterland of New Guinea. In a statement following a Cabinet meeting, Mr. Lyons said immigrants should be distributed to areas where they had good prospects of absorption in the general population. (Australia has approved entry of 15,000 German Jewish refugees in three years.)
