The Nazi press, having already expressed its bitter opposition to election of Eugenio Pacelli as Pope, indicated tonight the axis powers would find it equally distasteful if the Cardinal-Camerlengo were reappointed Papal Secretary of State.

Der Angriff said there were some among the Cardinals who were concerned solely with religious works and peace, notably Granito Cardinal Pignatelli di Belmonte, 88-year-old Dean of the Sacred College. It declared Elia Cardinal Dalla Costa, Archbishop of Florence, had little chance of being elected Pope, because Italy too openly supports him.
