Joint commissions of the Upper House are scheduled to debate on Friday the new anti-Jewish measure, which has passed its third reading in the Chamber of Deputies. During third reading of the bill in Chamber, Socialist Deputy Karl Peyer sarcastically moved the following three-point amendment; (1) That Jews be permitted to bet in the pari-mutuel at the race tracks only if they prove that their ancestors had betted in 1867; (2) that Jews winning in the State lottery be obliged to yield their winnings to the “Aryan” power of the next number, and (3) that Jews playing cards be obliged to cede trumps to their “Aryan” partner.
Re-electing Court Councillor Samuel Stern president for the tenth year, the annual meeting of the Pest Jewish Community solemnly reaffirmed its protest against the “denial of national honor, human rights and Hungarian sentiments to Hungary Jewry” and declared that the victims of the projected law were prepared to sacrifice their blood and life to the Fatherland.
