Jewish professional men in Italy will no longer be allowed to provide their services to “Aryans,” it was announced today. The restrictions are incorporated in a bill approved Saturday by the Cabinet and will go into effect six months after the bill is passed by the Italian Chamber and Senate.
Names of professionals are being re-classified in three lists: first, “Aryans”; second, Jews of recognized merit in civilian or military life; third, other Jews.
Meanwhile, it was announced that 3,720 foreign Jews were forced to leave Italy up to March 12. Permitted to remain were 933 who had entered Italy before 1919, who had married Italian citizens, or who are over 65 years old. Of 3,190 foreign Jews who had petitioned to remain, only 128 received the permission requested.
