French newspapers today condemned Cuba for its action in barring the St. Louis refugees and urged the American, British and French governments to join in a serious movement to solve the refugee problem. Declaring Cuba’s “merciless act is disgraceful,” Le Matin suggested that Jewish organizations negotiate for a refugee settlement project for French Guiana similar to that under way for British Guiana.
