Tres Arboles, first Jewish agricultural colony in Uruguay, was the subject of high praise today in the Uruguayan press.
Commenting on the colony’s annual general meeting, the newspaper El Plato said the settlement provided an “illuminating example of what should be done in our own national economy.” It added that the colony’s success “must have a favorable influence on the immigration of Jews to Uruguay.” El Imparcial declared the colony was living refutation of allegations by anti-Semites that Jews did not make good agricultural workers. “The Jews,” it said, “are good colonists.”
