Conviction that the Jewish Palestine Pavilion at the World’s Fair will be reopened next year was expressed by Dr. Stephen S. Wise at a dinner in the Fair Administration Building last night winding up the pavilion’s activities for the season. About 75 Jewish leaders were present.
Guests of honor were Thomas Mann, the author, who declared that Nazi anti-Semitism “signifies an assault upon Christianity itself,” and Judge Irving Lehman, who, while terming himself a non-Zionist, called Palestine “a symbol of the Jews’ resolute will to live until a better day, which must come.” Dr. Mann was presented with a Palestinian Bible and Dr. Wise with a bust of himself by Jacob Epstein. Other speakers were Dr. Israel Goldstein, who presided, Louis Lipsky and Meyer W. Weisgal.
