The United Yeshivos Foundation, Inc., announced today that a meeting of its board of education had unanimously adopted resolutions refusing to recognize the newly-formed Jewish Education Committee of New York as “the central body to rule over Jewish education in New York” and stating that “the yeshivos will not permit this committee to coordinate or supervise their activities.”

The action was taken, it was stated, because no representatives of yeshivos had been invited to attend meetings of the committee, which was formed to administer a $1,000,000 grant from the Friedsam Foundation. The statement added that nearly 40 per cent of all funds spent by New York Jews on Jewish education was expended by the Yeshivos.
