The Rumanian authorities have agreed to permit Jewish refugees from Poland to remain in the country until such time as arrangements for re-emigration can be arranged, it was announced today.
The agreement was made known by General Marinescu, Minister of Public Order who is in charge of refugees from Poland, in the course of an audience with President Kotic of the Rumanian Zionist Organization, and Engineer Ansehlm Reiss, who is in Rumania as the representative of the Jewish Agency for Palestine. The authorities will also permit refugees to take with them their valuables and foreign currency, it was stated, but they will have to be registered first with the Ministry of Finance. Refugees preparing for emigration to Palestine will be permitted to take Hebrew lessons.
