Interior Minister H.G. Lawrence said in a statement today that the immigration policy of the Union of South Africa had not changed except that immigrants from enemy countries, including Austria and Czechoslovakia, will not be admitted.
The Immigrants Selection Board, however, has allowed the immigration of a few parents, minors and children of refugees who were not likely to endanger the safety of the country, Lawrence added.
Lawrence estimated that some 40,000 persons had been registered under the Registration of Aliens Act. Some of the registrants were found to have entered the country illegally.
