Charles E. Coughlin resumed his radio talks yesterday but, despite advance promises that his speech would be of a “tremendously important nature,” the radio priest devoted it almost entirely to verbatim quotations from a recent report of the National Catholic Welfare Conference, avoiding more controversial subjects. An announcer on the program urged persons interested in a comment on the Jewish Peoples Committee’s complaint against Coughlin to write for a copy of a new book, “An Answer to Father Coughlin’s Critics,” which the announcer said contained material that could not be given over the air or in newspapers.
