The Board of Deputies of British Jews was on record today with a unanimous resolution condemning the Palestine land act as a “cruel blow at the Jewish national home” and “injurious to Arab economy.”
The resolution, introduced by President Selg Brodetsky, charged that the ordinance was inconsistent with the terms of the League Mandate since it constituted a “measure of discrimination against a section of the population, which is a principle completely alien to the British conception of fundamental rights and citizenship.” The land act was also described as a setback to development of Arab-Jewish cooperation.
In moving the resolution, Prof. Brodetsky stressed that the attitude of world Jewry toward the present war remained unchanged but “committing an injustice to the Jewish people was also something to be taken into consideration in connection with the war situation.”
